DNA-PCR Certification

BRELACTIS undergoes stringent quality evaluation to assure the product you receive is identical to the product we originally developed.  Each of the six strains of lactic acid bacteria that make up BRELACTIS are grown separately.  Every time we make BRELACTIS, each strain is identified using a process known as DNA Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) amplification.  In this process, an enzyme is used to rapidly replicate the DNA, providing a concentrated source of DNA from each strain.  Once amplified, we make a visual print of the DNA through a process called gel electrophoresis.   This print provides a unique DNA fingerprint which is then analyzed and compared to a database of known strains.   This ensures that each strain in BRELACTIS is genetically identical to those originally found in our donor calves.  In essence, we repeatedly confirmed through genetic analysis that the specifically selected strains of lactic acid bacteria are in every pail and every bag of BRELACTIS, every time.
