Performance Horse Supplement PERFORMANCE HORSE SUPPLEMENT
The energy expenditure of a horse at high performance levels may be 100% higher than its energy expenditure at rest. This extra energy is generally provided by increasing the amount of grain and decreasing the amount of forage. However, there are situations when feeding greater amounts of grain is not practical or desirable from a health standpoint. This is where Performance Horse Supplement fits into your feeding program.

Performance Horse Supplement is formulated to reduce the amount of grain needed to keep a horse in top body condition. One pound of this supplement can replace two pounds of grain. This allows the horse to eat less grain, eat more forage and help reduce incidence of intestinal disturbances. This product also provides a dietary source of specific nutrients which are involved in the growth and development of healthy joints and hooves.

Performance Horse Supplement provides maximum energy for any performing equine athlete during working conditions and in times of stress. Its readily available energy is provided quickly into the blood stream and the conversion of nutrients to energy is quicker and easier than using high amounts of cereal grains. Incorporating Performance Horse Supplement as part of a balanced ration provides a high energy fat source to help reduce the heat of fermentation in the working horse. This lowers the heat load the horse must dissipate, as compared to the traditional high carbohydrate (grain) ration.

Including fat in horse rations has been shown to increase muscle glycogen storage, improve performance and reduce the amount of feed required for maintenance of exercising horses. Additional fat may also slow the drop in blood glucose levels during exercise. Heavy exercise can lead to an accumulation of carbon dioxide and lactic acid in muscle tissue, contributing to muscle fatigue. Using fatty acids as an energy source produces less carbon dioxide in the muscle compared to glucose and is felt to be a benefit of fat oxidation during exercise.

Performance Horse Supplement is specifically formulated to be fed under the following conditions:
  • Racing horses and horses training for racing.
  • Horses subjected to hard riding; used in cattle feedlots and trail rides.
  • Rodeo, dressage & polo horses.
  • Endurance horses; used in daily farm activities and transportation.
  • All equine athletes required to sustain intense performance levels.

FEEDING DIRECTIONS
This product should be introduced slowly and gradually increased. The use rate will depend on the body condition and the workload of each horse. Do not feed more than 1.5 lbs of product per 1000 lbs of body weight per day.

  1. If used as a top-dress, start with lb per horse per day and gradually increase until desired results are reached. Do not feed more than 1.5 lbs of this product per 1000 lbs of body weight per day.
  2. This product can also be used as a base mix to be formulated with other ingredients, such as oats, corn, beet pulp, barley, or soybean meal. This provides considerable flexibility for protein, fat and fiber levels, and allows your grain ration to have the higher calorie level for your horse's need for readily available energy.
GOOD MANAGEMENT PRACTICES
  1. Performance Horse Supplement should be part of a complete balanced ration for working horses or horses in poor body condition. Mature, nonworking horses on pasture do not require Performance Horse Supplement, except to put on additional body condition in preparation for winter weather in colder climates.
  2. Provide access to clean, fresh water at all times
  3. Never feed moldy, musty, dusty, wet or frozen feed.
  4. Base the amount of feed offered on the body condition, age, weight and work level of each horse.
  5. Keep feeders and waterers clean.
  6. Prevent hot horses from consuming excess water or grain. Allow 1-2 hours after feeding before working your horse. Allow 1-2 hours for your horse to cool down before feeding grain or Performance Horse Supplement.
  7. Ensure your horse gets adequate exercise.
  8. Don't feed from your hand. This can lead to biting or nipping.
  9. Change body condition of horses gradually. Increase or decrease feed gradually, and increase exercise levels slowly.
