Fat fortified diets have been shown to provide many benefits
for sows and pigs. Whether obtained before farrowing or during growth, added fat
gives a pig extra energy. Additional energy not only helps increase the pig's chances
for survival, but adds palatable nutrition to the pre-farrowing and lactation diets
of the sow. As the pig grows, fat fortified rations continue to provide such benefits
as improved feed efficiency, increased palatability and nutritional action.
Taste Appeal
Just before and after farrowing, sows need a palatable product to keep them eating.
Baby pigs are just as fussy, but they will begin nibbling at a prestarter ration
containing Dry Fat 7-60 shortly after birth. Since malnutrition is a major cause
of pig losses, this is important in encouraging them to eat at an early age.
Convenient
The small size and dry form make Dry Fat 7-60 easy to handle and miux. In contrast,
solid forms of fat need to be melted before they are added to the ration. And, when
liquid fat is used in grind and mix operations, the fat can stick to the equipment.
Digestible
Dry Fat 7-60 looks different than ordinary fat. That's because it IS different.
Choice white grease combines with easily digestible milk products in a special process
causing the milk protein to form a capsule around the fat particles as they dry.
These particles are four to five times smaller than liquid fats.
Controls dust
The tiny particles also help control dust and fines in feed. As the fat disperses
evenly, the smaller, dusty particles are also dispersed This prevents packing and
hot spots. Improved dust control lowers feed spoilage and a cleaner atmosphere can
help reduce respiratory ailments of pigs.
