Merrick's SUPER GUARD II Milk Replacer is an effective tool to aid in the treatment of bacterial diarrhea. Recent research has shown high levels of Vitamin E to be especially beneficial during periods of stress. SUPER GUARD II provides extra vitamins and minerals to help in rebuilding body stores. In addition, SUPER GUARD II contains electrolytes and special direct-fed microbials. SUPER GUARD II Milk Replacer is medicated with a combination of oxytetracycline and neomycin. Oxytetracycline is absorbed into the blood stream as well as being active within the intestinal tract. Neomycin is primarily effective against intestinal bacteria.
Mix 4 oz (1 cup) of dry milk replacer per 2 qts of water (100° - 120° F). Feed approximately 2 qts of reconstituted milk replacer TWICE A DAY. This provides 400 mg of neomycin base and 200 mg of oxytetracycline per gallon of reconstituted milk replacer. Feed as the sole source of milk replacer for 2 days to aid in the treatment of scours. To most effectively treat calf scours, it is important that you work with your veterinarian to accurately diagnose your calf's condition. Advice from your veterinarian and good management practices will help in controlling this complex problem.
