Energize your winter feeding program . . .
Winter Star is packed with energy! Now you can feed the additional energy your calves need to help them through even the coldest winter night - all in one milk replacer. Winter Star's unique formulation lets you increase the energy intake of your calves more than 35% without changing your feeding routine.

No need for additional energy fortifiers . . .
Winter Star provides your calves the same high energy level as a 20/20 milk replacer fortified with Merrick's Super Calf-Kit. There's no need to add an energy supplement - we've done that job for you.

    Same protein level . . .
Under routine feeding conditions, a 20/20 milk replacer provides calves with 3.2 oz of protein each day. Fortifying with Super Calf-Kit provides 3.4 oz of protein per day. Following the Winter Star Feeding Program, calves will consume 10 oz of Winter Star each feeding. That means they also receive 3.4 oz of protein daily - the same protein level as a 20/20 milk replacer + Super Calf-Kit.

    Winter Star: 17% x 20 oz = 3.4 oz
    20/20: 20% x 16 oz = 3.2 oz

    20/20 SC-K
    20/20 + SC-K: 3.2 oz + (6% x 4 oz) = 3.4 oz

    Best value . . .
Winter Star provides a consistent, high energy nutrient source while eliminating the need to combine products or to adjust feeding rates of conventional milk replacers. Compared with other feeding methods, Winter Star saves you time, reduces the chance of mixing errors and delivers the right cold weather formulation - targeting your dollar for maximum effect.

    MIXING & FEEDING INSTRUCTIONS
Winter Star is recommended for calves exposed to temperatures below 30° F. No whole milk is required after the colostrum feeding period when calf milk replacer is used.

Add 10 oz (1 rounded cup) of dry milk replacer powder per 2 quarts of water (100°-120° F) and mix thoroughly. Cup enclosed in bag holds approximately 8 oz (1/2 lb) dry weight. Feed approximately 2 quarts of reconstituted milk replacer TWICE A DAY.

    GOOD MANAGEMENT PRACTICES

  • Good newborn care is crucial to maximize calf survival rates. Immediate feeding of colostrum is one of the most important steps to increase the survival and health of newborn calves. Feed 2 quarts of high quality, first milking colostrum within the first 30 minutes after birth. Feed an additional 2 quarts at 6 to 12 hours of age. Continue feeding colostrum through the third day after birth.
  • Begin your milk replacer program on the 4th day. Feed twice daily, at regular intervals, according to label directions. Wash feeding equipment thoroughly after each usage.
  • Have fresh clean water available at all times.
  • Do not feed hay until after weaning when calves are consuming adequate amounts of dry starter.
  • Calves should be housed in clean, dry individual pens or hutches that are well ventilated and draft free.
  • Keep Merrick's BLUE RIBBON Calf Electrolytes on hand to properly manage calves.
